Welcome to St. Eugene's CYO
What is CYO Basketball all about?
St. Eugene's CYO Basketball is a program for boys and girls from 3rd grade through 8th grade.
Before the season begins, skill assessments are held for every player.
For 3rd Grade, a "draft" is held with the goal of making teams that are relatively even with one another.
Starting in 4th grade, teams are formed in hierarchical Divisions. That is, the Division I team is selected first with the best 9-10 players in that grade. Then, the Division II team is selected, and so on. St. Eugene's teams at each of these gender/grade/division combinations will play teams from the other North Bay CYO parishes at the same gender/grade/division combination. For example, the 5th grade Division II boys St. Eugene's team will play the 5th grade Division II teams from parishes such as St. Rose and St. Vincent's.
The purpose - and benefit - of this format is to allow like-skilled players to play with and against one another. In other words, regardless of your player's skill level, the CYO format allows them the best opportunity to play at the correct level of competition for them.
St. Eugene's is a part of North Bay CYO. Please visit the North Bay CYO site to learn more about the CYO Philosophy.
